May 25 1963:- Representatives of 30 African Nations meet in Addis and wrote the charter of OAU
1958:- Conference of independent African states held in Ghana
1961:- Conference was held in Casablanca to form common market and military command
1960 & 1961:- 12 French speaking African countries signed a charter establishing the “Union Africaine ”
1980:- OAU help the African economic summit, which resulted in the Lago plan of action. It calls for economic independence of member states by 2000
1984:- All independent African nations except South Africa joined OAU, 50 member states
May 1994:- South Africa became the 53th Nation to join OAU
1989:- External debt obligations and economics reform mandate by the international monetary fund, and the world bank.
1991:- OAU met in Abujan, Nigeria. Prepared draft of the African economic community (AEC) treaty
1998:- 54th OAU Economic submit focused on debt forgiveness, dual citizenship, a single currency and the formation of an African mineral exporting bloc
